Our Story

Why Cape Town?

We love that you are interested in the story of our relationship, but think that the most important question to answer isn’t “how did they meet” but actually, “why in the heck are they getting married at the other end of the planet?!”. So that’s what we are going to share here…

Before we moved to London, there were a few months between leaving our jobs at VanMoof and the moving day in April. It has been a dream of Wren’s to spend an extended period of time in Cape Town after visiting the city with Tesla in 2017 and in typical supportive fashion Pim jumped on board and we booked to go down for the whole month of February.

It was an amazing experience, Cape Town quickly became one of our favorite cities and we leaned into local living as much as possible while being tourists every so often. The people, the food, the scenery are just unbeatable. During the month, Pim planned a couple days away in Franschhoek - including an entire day of sparkling wine tasting. One of the days happened to be Valentine’s day, not really our thing, but the wine farm that we were at, Boschendal, had a lovely picnic and live music setup that was full of couples. We sat and watched the other couples and took bets on who was going to stage a proposal in this public place, something neither of us would want. That conversation smoothly transitioned from, “well this would be a really stunning place to get married” into “actually we should get married here”. Fueled by a few bottles of wine and epic food, we spent the rest of the day planning what our wedding would look like.

The idea has never left our minds and when we got engaged, our hearts were set on making our dream into a reality and introducing our loved ones to this special place that we love so much. We will be visiting Boschendal again during the wine tour day for some wine and a picnic and hopefully you will all be able to see what we saw and fall in love with this beautiful part of the world too.
